Every month Cruise Line Agencies of Alaska has published

Provenance: Cruise Line Agencies of Alaska’s schedule reaches Tuesday, October 6. A month past that is not empty — it has not been published yet.

Where the ships tie up

  • Downtown Juneau cruise ship berths

Juneau has two city-owned cruise ship docks on the downtown waterfront, and two more cruise docks nearby that the city does not own.

Docks & Harbors says the city-owned docks berth one Panamax ship up to 1,000 feet and one post-Panamax ship up to 1,100 feet, and that the docks together serve over a million passengers a season. The city berths were completed in 2017.

  • Berth codes the Alaska schedule uses

    ASCTICTAJDAJIFKLIVFMWGKVSDACTAIFAMPASD

Cruise Line Agencies of Alaska, which schedules the Alaska ports, codes Juneau's berths AS for the Alaska Steam Dock, CT for the Cruiseship Terminal, AJD and AJI for A.J. Dock and its inside face, FKL for the South Franklin Street Dock, and IVF for the Intermediate Vessel Float.

The same key lists ACT, AIF, AMP and ASD, which are anchorages rather than docks: a ship carrying one of those codes tenders its passengers ashore instead of tying up.

This is the scheduling agency's own list of codes, not a statement about who owns which dock. No official source read here maps the two city-owned docks and the two privately owned ones onto these names, so this page does not say which is which. One code is going away: GKV, the Gitkov Dock, is in the 2026 key and not the 2027 one, so expect it on a 2026 document and not on a later one.

  • Intermediate Vessel Float (IVF)

The Intermediate Vessel Float sits downtown between two cruise ship floats and takes small cruise ships, yachts and fishing boats rather than the large ships.

It has 800 feet of mooring space, and Docks & Harbors takes it by reservation only because the stays are short and the summer demand is heavy.

Getting around Juneau

  • The downtown berth area has a pedestrian promenade, a visitor center, bus staging, public parking, and a Port and Customs building holding the Port of Juneau Field Office and US Customs and Border Protection.

Docks & Harbors also names a grocery store, restaurants, gift shops, coffee shops with wifi, a public library with public computers, a post office and public transportation as nearby.

No official Juneau page read here prints a walking distance or a walking time from any berth to downtown, so none is given. The list above is Docks & Harbors' own account of what is at the berths, not a claim about how far the walk is from the dock your ship is assigned.

Source: City and Borough of Juneau, read Sep 18, 2026

  • The Port Field Office at the downtown berths is open Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, on 907-586-5720.

Those are office hours, not cruise-day hours. Ships call on weekends through the season.

What closes when

  • Juneau's cruise season runs May through September, which is the span Docks & Harbors counts its passengers over.

Docks & Harbors states the season and does not publish opening or closing dates for anything at the berths, so no other seasonal hours appear here.

How much traffic this port takes

  • Beginning with the 2026 season, the cruise lines have agreed to limit Juneau port calls to a maximum of 16,000 available lower berths on the same day Sunday through Friday, and 12,000 available lower berths on Saturday.

The Memorandum of Agreement is between the City and Borough of Juneau and Carnival Corporation, Disney Cruise Line, NCL (Bahamas) Ltd. and Royal Caribbean Group. CBJ keeps the discretion to approve days above the weekday limit.

This is an agreement between the city and four cruise companies, not a law, and the document itself calls it a statement of intent rather than a formal legal contract. It counts available lower berths, which is what the ships are built to carry, not a count of people ashore — and it binds only ships operated by those companies.

Source: City and Borough of Juneau, read Sep 18, 2026

  • Under an earlier agreement with the cruise lines, Juneau also works to a threshold of no more than five large ships in port per day.

CBJ negotiated it with Cruise Lines International Association on behalf of its member lines, building on recommendations the city's Visitor Industry Task Force made in 2020.

Source: City and Borough of Juneau, read Sep 18, 2026

  • Juneau voters assigned a $5 fee per cruise ship passenger in 1999 to fund projects that offset the industry's impact on the community, and the city also levies a $3 Port Development Fee.

The city puts some of that money into public wifi downtown through the cruise season.

Where this comes from

Every row on this page is read from Cruise Line Agencies of Alaska’s own cruise schedule. The berth, the times and the capacity are printed as the port publishes them, and nothing on this page is inferred from anywhere else.
