Where the ships tie up

  • Austin "Babe" Monsanto Marine Terminal (Crown Bay)

    Crown Bay is the Port Authority's own terminal, south of Charlotte Amalie Harbor, with two docks that take three cruise ships at once.

    Its main dock has two Oasis-class-capable berths of 940 feet each, with 28 feet of water on the north side and 37 on the south; an adjoining dock runs 435 feet at 27 feet.

  • West Indian Company Dock (Havensight)

    Havensight is a separate dock the Port Authority does not run: The West Indian Company Limited owns and operates it, publishes its own schedule for it, and the Port Authority links out rather than listing its calls.

    WICO says it has held the dock at Long Bay for more than a century and handles 1.5 million passengers and crew a year.

    The board on this page lists Crown Bay only, because that is the schedule the Port Authority publishes itself. A ship berthing at Havensight will not appear here — check WICO's own schedule for those.

  • Berth codes the Port Authority uses

    AMNSAMSSAMHPIANCHOANCHWICO

    The Port Authority codes St. Thomas berths AMNS, AMSS and AMHP for Crown Bay's north, south and homeport docks, IANCH and OANCH for the inner and outer anchorages, and WICO for Havensight.

    An anchorage code means the ship tenders rather than ties up. WICO is on the authority's list but not in its Crown Bay schedule, which is the one this page reads.

  • Charlotte Amalie Waterfront

    The Charlotte Amalie Waterfront is a 3,200-foot bulkhead running alongside the shopping district, with four to 14 feet of water — it takes tenders and yachts, not cruise ships.

Getting around St. Thomas

  • The territory's tourism site puts both piers "a short distance" from downtown Charlotte Amalie.

    No official page prints a distance or a walking time for either pier, so none is given here.

  • Taxis and safari-style buses meet every pier, and their fares are regulated by zone.

    The Virgin Islands Taxicab Commission publishes no rate schedule online, so no fare is quoted here. Ask the driver for the zone fare before you set off.

  • Ferries to Cruz Bay on St. John and to the British Virgin Islands leave from the Edward Wilmoth Blyden IV Marine Terminal downtown, which also holds federal inspection services and the ferry ticket booths.

    Parking there is metered at $0.25 per half hour with a two-hour maximum.

  • St. John has no cruise port, so reaching it from a St. Thomas call means a ferry or a private boat.

How much traffic this port takes

  • Crown Bay is being redeveloped under a lease with Cruise Terminals International, with the Port Authority staying owner and landlord, and construction of a new pier is anticipated to begin in 2026 pending approvals.

    The Port Authority says the work is phased so cruise calls continue, and names expanded parking, ground transportation and a day-use recreation area alongside the pier.

    A berth that moves during construction moves with it, so check your berth close to the date.
