Which cruise lines sail from the Port of Galveston?

Our Port of Galveston guide directory includes Carnival, Royal Caribbean, MSC Cruises, Princess Cruises and three more. Sailings vary by season; check the dated sailing calendar and your cruise documents to confirm departures and terminal assignments.

How much is parking at the Port of Galveston?

The Port of Galveston does not publish a flat rate. Its own parking pages say only that the price depends on which lot you choose, whether it is covered, and how close it sits to the terminals — and it appears once you enter your sailing dates in the port's reservation system. So there is no port-wide number to plan against here: price your own dates before you compare. The parking guide covers which lots you walk from, which run a shuttle, and what the independent lots publish.

Passport & Documents

Bring a valid passport even on a closed-loop cruise — one that leaves and returns to the same U.S. port, where a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID are technically enough — because only a passport gets you home if you miss the ship at a foreign port (full document list in our first-time cruise tips).

Need to apply? The nearest passport acceptance facility is the Galveston Main Post Office (601 25th St, Galveston) — appointments recommended, call 409-763-1527.

Getting There & Parking

Parking for your cruise

Driving from Houston or NearbyCruisers driving from Texas, Louisiana, or nearby statesCosts & travel details

CostGas for the drive, plus parking at the port or a hotel cruise package — the port quotes parking by sailing length rather than publishing a daily rate.

Galveston is about 50 miles south of downtown Houston via I-45. The drive is easy but traffic varies widely.

Pro tip: Leave early on embarkation day — I-45 can back up significantly, especially on weekend cruise days. The last few miles through Galveston can also be slow with cruise traffic.

Port Parking OptionsCruisers who want to park close to the terminalCosts & travel details

Costrates vary by lot — the port quotes them only at booking

The port operates several lots at different terminals. Terminal 25/28 have the Express Lot (walking distance), Lots A & B (free shuttle), and SMP Garage. Terminal 10 has the North and South Lots.

Pro tip: Reserve at portofgalveston.com — the price appears only once you enter your sailing dates. Confirm your terminal before parking — Terminal 10 (Royal Caribbean) is a 5-minute drive from Terminals 25/28 (Carnival, Disney).

Hotel Park & Cruise PackagesCruisers who want a stress-free experience, especially those arriving the day beforeCosts & travel details

CostQuoted by the property at booking; the packages do not publish a price.

Many Galveston hotels offer packages that include parking and shuttle to the port. Stay the night before and leave your car while you cruise.

Pro tip: Moody Gardens' Stay, Park and Sail advertises valet parking and round-trip transport for up to four guests; confirm covered parking nights and extra-vehicle charges. Harbor House at Pier 21 is walking distance to the port. Book directly with hotels.

Other ways to reach the ship

From George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)Most cruisers flying in nationally or internationallyCosts & travel details

CostGalveston Limousine Service, the operator the airport itself names, publishes $28.00 per person one way online against $65.00 by phone, with extra bags $20 each way. No taxi fare is published for this route, and rideshare is not published either.

Houston's largest airport is about 75 miles from the Port of Galveston. Allow at least 90 min for the drive, more during rush hour.

Pro tip: Consider staying in Galveston the night before if your flight arrives after 3 PM. I-45 traffic can be brutal, especially on weekends. Multiple shuttle companies offer IAH to Galveston service — book in advance.

From William P. Hobby Airport (HOU)Southwest flyers, those wanting a shorter transferCosts & travel details

CostGalveston Limousine Service publishes $28.00 per person one way online against $55.00 by phone. Hobby's own flat-rate taxi table covers five metro Houston destinations and not Galveston, so a taxi here runs on the meter. Rideshare: no published fare.

Southwest's hub is closer to Galveston — about 45 miles, or 60 min drive time without traffic.

Pro tip: Hobby is significantly closer than IAH. If you have a choice of airports, Hobby saves 30+ minutes. The route via I-45 is straightforward — just watch for ferry traffic near Galveston.

Galveston Express ShuttleSolo travelers or couples who don't want to rent a carCosts & travel details

Cost$45 per person one way from either Houston airport, and $80-$85 per person round trip, on Galveston Express's own rate table as read 2026-08-25. Seniors 55 and over and children 10 and under take $5 off a round trip; a Sunday prime-time booking adds $5. The operator charges the same from Hobby as from Intercontinental.

Dedicated cruise shuttle service from Houston airports to Galveston hotels and port. Multiple daily departures.

Pro tip: Book round-trip for savings. Confirm pickup times — shuttles operate on schedules. Consider using shuttle to the port but Uber back to the airport (more flexibility on return).

Boarding Tips

1.

Pack a carry-on day bag with essentials

You probably know this one, but it bears repeating: regardless of which line you're sailing, your checked luggage won't arrive at your cabin until mid-to-late afternoon. Pack swimsuits, sunscreen, any medications, phone chargers, and a change of clothes in a bag you carry on board. You'll want to start enjoying the ship immediately.

Disney: Download the My Disney Cruise Line app. Norwegian: Download the NCL app. MSC: Download MSC for Me. All require online check-in before arrival — don't wait until the terminal.

Arrive at the time shown in your cruise line's boarding documents.
